FOOTBALL IS BACK!
Thank you, Germany, for finally making this important step and bring back the most thrilling game in the world. We are all passing through a difficult time and the future has never been more uncertain, but one thing can help us distract ourselves from the sad and grey reality in which we are living. I might sound crazy to some of you but for me, the sport has always been a huge part of my life and I can't imagine living in a world without it. Let's sit back and enjoy one of the most entertaining leagues in the world this Saturday and at least for a few hours forger how tough the past couple of months were.
Augsburg vs Wolfsburg
The better team in this match is Wolfsburg. The Wolves were unbeaten in their previous six games – winning three and drawing three. This excellent run has lifted Oliver Glasner’s men to seventh in the standings – one point behind Schalke and 13 from the top four. While a place in next season’s Champions League may be unreachable, Wolfsburg can secure a Europe League spot if they pick up where they left off. The visitors travel here unbeaten in three away league fixtures- winning 2 and drawing one, whilst all four of their away matches in 2020 have seen both teams score and over 3.5 goals.
Augsburg finds themselves fourteenth in the table – one point ahead of Mainz and five points clear of the bottom three. A record of W7-D6-L12 means that Augsburg isn’t entirely out of the relegation battle, although a couple of positive results should be enough to secure their safety. Augsburg displays their best at home (they have picked up 18 of their 27 points) and even in a contest behind closed doors have enough firepower to give Wolfsburg a scare. Their last 12 home games have featured 45 goals – an average of 3.75 a match – and they have failed to score in only one of those contests.
Trends:
Over 2.5 goals have been seen in 24 of FC Augsburg's last 28 home matches in Bundesliga
There have been over 2.5 goals in 6 of Wolfsburg's 8 most recent games in Bundesliga
In 11 of FC Augsburg's last 14 home, all competitions match both teams scored
Both teams scored in 6 of Wolfsburg's last 8 matches in Bundesliga
FC Augsburg have recorded a poor run of 6 losses by 2+ goals in their last 9 all competitions matches
Of their last 9 Bundesliga matches, Wolfsburg have conceded 2+ goals in 6 meetings
Wolfsburg here looks like the team who will have the better chance of winning this match, but after 2 months of no football, we can’t be sure of their condition. For Augsburg, the fight for survival is just about to begin, and they will have to find a way to improve their results. At home, they have always been a dangerous team and they will put on a performance for their fans in front of the TVs. We predict a high scoring affair with both teams going for a win here and not slowing down.
PREDICTION: Over 2.5 goals at 1.95 (1U)
LEAN: BTTS&Over 3.5 goals at 3.75
Fortuna Dusseldorf vs Paderborn
The scrap for Bundesliga survival is way clearer cut than the duel for title supremacy and for relegation candidates Fortuna Dusseldorf and Paderborn this is a game neither can afford to lose. Uwe Rosler’s January appointment has improved Fortuna Dusseldorf’s survival chances. The hosts have lost only one of their six league matches under his care, however, four of those outings have finished as draws. At home, however, Dusseldorf is on a four-game winless streak (D2, L2), and have now conceded in seven straight fixtures here. There are a handful of teams in the division with a poorer defensive record than Dusseldorf, but no club has scored fewer goals in Germany’s top flight this term.
Meanwhile, Paderborn finds themselves bottom of the table on 16 points – two points behind second-bottom Werder Bremen and four points behind Fortuna. A win for Paderborn this weekend would move them to within a point of Fortuna, but anything other than a victory would see them cast further adrift at the bottom. Paderborn’s 25 league games this term have featured 84 goals (3.36 per game), with the net bulging at both ends in 17 of their encounters.
Trends:
Of their last 22 home matches in all competitions, Fortuna Dusseldorf have seen 17 high-scoring with over 2.5 goals
Paderborn have conceded at least 2 goals in their last 4 matches
Both teams scored in 7 of Fortuna Dusseldorf's last 8 games in all competitions
Both teams scored in 5 of Paderborn’s last 6 games I the Bundesliga
Fortuna Dusseldorf have conceded 17 goals across their last seven home matches
Paderborn’s 25 league games this term have featured 84 goals (an average of 3.36), with both teams scoring in 17 of those matches
Tough to separate these 2 teams and especially when they won’t be 30000 passionate home fans on the stadium on that day. A loss for Paderborn means that they will be 9 points behind their opponent in this match which will put them in a very tough situation and probably relegation. We expect Paderborn to come up strong and do their best to win the match and with that to bring back hope for surviving. On the other side, Fortuna must improve their home performance and look for a chance to punish the visitors in any possible situation and break their rhythm of playing. We think both teams scoring in this match is a very possible outcome but will not be the end of it. Anything is possible here in a genuine relegation six-pointer with two sides desperate for a win in a very weird atmosphere due to the Coronavirus outbreak.
